Working Progress Now with really uppity design

In Quarantine

So my wife Christine works at a Retirement Home in the area. She loves it. I love that she loves it. She loves that I love that she loves it. I lo…well you get the idea. It’s a really great fit for her.

Sadly, on occasion, bad things can happen at work that affects us at home. More specifically, one bad thing has happened. Christine called me from work on Tuesday (2 days ago), saying that her workplace was in an unconfirmed outbreak. She was taking as many precautions as possible, and despite being the receptionist, was pretty much running the show, as many of the managers were sick. The virus was very contagious however, and she eventually go it anyway. This meant that, the minute I stepped into my home, I was going to have to stay away from school for a few days. This was kind of a bummer, but hey, free day off, right?

I’m not sick yet. But here’s the worst of it. Well, that IS the worst of it. Christine has exhausted herself out, but I’ve got this creeping neurosis that, like attending Lepers on a Leper colony, it’s only a matter of time.

Scary. Hopefully I won’t get sick, but we’ll see.

As Tom Petty said,

Waaaaaiitin is the haaaardest part.

Micro-blogging

If you look to your right, you’ll see a little box that has one or two sentences in it. This is called Twitter, the most popular micro-blogging tool on the internets. That’s right, micro-blogging: the current apex of internet nerditry!

Micro-blogging consists of 140-characters-at-a-time-or-less posts that talk about anything: what you are doing, what you are thinking, answers to others, links, and anything else that can be fit into 140 characters. For those on facebook, it’s basically updating only a facebook status all the freaking time. And then, you follow others’ feeds.

It’s great, and since I got my new iPod Touch (with its bountiful wifi access) from my wife, I use it in excess.

You should too. my twitter page is http://www.twitter.com/wkinchlea. Get jacked in. JOIN US.

Community Crisis

So one of the requisites of being in Student Leadership at Tyndale (Student Council President – no big deal) is a weekly hourly session that involves talking about important aspects of being in Christian leadership: spiritual discipline, mentoring, community, and discipleship. We’ve been talking about community for the last month and it is starting to really bother me. The reason is because Canada sucks.

Canada sucks because we live in a culture mired in individualism.

Canada sucks because we are trained from an insanely young age to ignore and hide our neediness.

Canada sucks because our Christianity generally finds itself stuck to ideals and not people.

Canada sucks because our leaders are put on pedestals far above where any mortal should be.

I think I’ve found where the majority of my church problem reaches its breaking point.
